講義目的・到達目標
Purpose: To learn health, well-being and inequalities around the world. Students are expected to discuss on the issues based on the text book and additional readings, and to write short papers.

Achievement: The goal of this course is to develop an ability to analyze and discuss social and health policy issues in English.

This course provides an overview of health and welfare issues along with the economic development worldwide. Contents of the course are as follows;

参考文献
Additional readings will be announced during the course.
OECD report on social indicators is a possibility.


事前・事後学習(予習・復習)の内容・時間の目安
Students are expected to read the text book chapter before the class, and review the text book after the class.

Expected study hours are about 4 hours per class.


アクティブ・ラーニングの内容
Students are required to participate in discussion during the class.  Also required to present on the topic based on the readings. They are expected to work with group members.
成績評価の基準・方法
Students will be graded from an “S”to “C” based on the quality of presentation and term paper. Some extra points will be granted to the special contribution to the discussion in the class.

Group presentation and assignments: 60%
Final exam: 40%

After every presentation, an instructor will give comments and suggestions.

Students who take this course should want to read, write, and listen in English. They should be motivated to actively participate in class.

Students who take this course should attend the first lecture in order to grasp the contents.
