講義目的・到達目標
【講義目的】
Course Objective: This seminar aims to provide knowledge of analytical tools needed for research in the international and macro-economy related topics. The course is also a preparation step for the next research seminar and thesis seminar through which students are expected to gradually develop the ability to apply their obtained knowledge and analytic skills to understand global macro issues such as currency and trade wars, the effects of immigration on the economy, and the impacts of Digital Transformation (DX) on economic growth and development, etc.

Student Learning Outcome: By the end of the course, students able to use macroeconomic tools to analyze many short-run and long-run macroeconomic phenomena in the real world.

講義内容・授業計画
In the second semester, we will select from the following suggested but not mandatory topics of interest:
I. National Income Accounting and the Balance of Payments
II. International Trade
 1.  Labor Productivity, Comparative Advantage and Trade
 2. Resources and Trade, Relative Abundance
 3. Trade Policy Import Tariffs and Quotas
III. International Finance
 4. Exchange rates and Foreign Exchange Market
    Interest-rate Parity, The Short-run Asset Approach
 5. The Money Market Money Demand and Supply
     Exchange Rates in the Long-run
 6. Purchase Power Parity, Real Exchange Rates      
IV. International Finance System and Monetary Policy
    Gold Standard, Fixed and Float Exchange Rate System


Students then read textbooks and related references, actively participate in the seminar and present assigned topics. The instructor will provide necessary lectures about related topics and guidance of how to do research and to write thesis.

Evaluation and Grading Policy:
(S): Those who actively participate during class, acquire an excellent understanding of macroeconomics and finance, and are able to relate these knowledge to real-world economic phenomena.
(A): Those who actively participate during class, acquire a very good understanding of macroeconomics and finance, and are sometimes able to relate these knowledge to real-world economic phenomena.
(B) Those who participate during class, acquire a good understanding of macroeconomics and finance.
(C) Those who acquire a basic knowledge of macroeconomics and finance.

Students are strongly encouraged to write a graduation thesis, which will be very useful for their future careers and particularly for further study at a graduate school.
The course will be conducted in English and it may be conducted partly online in 2024.
