講義目的・到達目標

This course aims to develop students’ ability to conduct their own research.  Based on their interests in research in the Humanities and Social Sciences, students will focus on the theoretical framework and background of the topic by reviewing prior literature and setting research questions.

Specific learning objectives in this course include:

1. to understand the important issues in research ethics, such as responsibility for any misconduct in carrying out one’s research

2. to acquire the basic knowledge of academic writing

3. to identify the topic for their graduation thesis

Students are expected to focus on their research by doing a literature review, giving a presentation in class, and writing a research proposal. In addition, they will learn the rules that apply to research practice, including research ethics and academic writing skills.

講義内容・授業計画
Students are expected to focus on their own research by doing literature review, giving a presentation in class, and writing a research proposal. In addition, they will learn the rules that apply to research practice including research ethics and academic writing skills.

There is no specific textbook; all materials will be distributed in class or will be available in the university library.
参考文献
References will be provided in class as needed.
事前・事後学習(予習・復習)の内容・時間の目安
Students must follow the plan and come to class prepared for the following week's assignments. The preparation time may be more than 60 minutes, depending on the project. Students work on their research or rewrite their papers according to feedback from their advisor in each class (more than 60 minutes).
アクティブ・ラーニングの内容
Pair work, group work for about 3-5 people, and group discussion are planned.
成績評価の基準・方法
Students will be graded from “S” to a “C” based on the seminar’s goals mentioned above. Grading criteria: Class discussions and comments: 30%, Class presentations: 40%, Assignments: 30%
課題・試験結果の開示方法
Direct feedback will be given in each class.
履修上の注意・履修要件
This is a joint seminar with Prof. Kinshi. Students are encouraged to actively participate and cooperate in class discussions
実践的教育
This course offers practical education, incorporating group discussions and presentations.
備考
This class is scheduled to be conducted in person on campus. However, depending on the number of students enrolled, as a measure against coronavirus infection, the students may need to be divided into classrooms that are connected online, or the students may need to take classes online from home every other week. Therefore, students will need to arrange for an Internet environment using a PC or tablet, Wi-Fi, etc. The final decision about this will be made after registration is completed, and students will be notified about any changes at that time.
