【講義目的 /Lecture Objectives】
 In light of the recent changes in societal dynamics, there has been a growing attenuation of connections among individuals. On the other hand, with the advancement of internet technology, it has become easier to connect with people worldwide who share common goals and interests. This lecture aims to foster individuals who actively contribute to the development of communities in such a contemporary society.

  • Demonstrate a multifaceted understanding of the challenges facing communities and take proactive actions towards problem-solving.
  • Articulate ideas for the development of communities in English using academic terminology and logical reasoning.

講義内容・授業計画
【講義内容 /Lecture Content】
This lecture not only involves academic input regarding communities but also aims to acquire practical insights through the application of the gained knowledge in case studies during group work. The goal is to obtain knowledge that can be practically implemented in real community settings.
Therefore, the 90-minute class is divided into 60 minutes of lecture, 20 minutes of group discussion, and 10 minutes of reflection. The outcomes of the group work will be evaluated through group presentations in the latter part of the lecture.
It's important to note that there are no restrictions on the use of generative AI in this lecture.

Part 1: Introduction for Building Communities (Lectures 1-4)
Explore the challenges of contemporary communities based on examples from local and online community cases.
Part 2: Concepts of Communities (Lectures 5-10)
Understand core concepts of communities such as Social Capital, Sense of Community, and Community Participation.
Part 3: Practices of Building Communities (Lectures 11-14)
Acquire practical insights into building and sustaining communities, focusing on operational knowledge for sustainable community development.
Final Part: Presentation (Lecture 15) & Final Exam (Lecture 16)

事前・事後学習(予習・復習)の内容・時間の目安
【予習/Preparation】
  • Spend 1.5 hours reviewing the provided class materials in advance. Look up unfamiliar words to enhance understanding.
  • Allocate 10 hours for group practice of presentations, focusing not only on the content but also on practicing delivery in English.
【復習/Review】
  • Enhance your ability to articulate insights discussed in class in English by researching relevant reference materials, papers introduced during class, and real-world examples of community management. Allocate 2.5 hours for this deepening understanding process.
アクティブ・ラーニングの内容
We will conduct group discussions in each class and presentations in final part.
成績評価の基準・方法
【成績評価の基準 /Grading Criteria】
Credit will be awarded based on the level of achievement in the abilities (knowledge, expressiveness, etc.) outlined in the lecture objectives and goals. The grading scale is as follows: S (90 points or more), A (80 points or more), B (70 points or more), C (60 points or more).

【成績評価の方法 /Evaluation Method】
 During each class, a reflection sheet for the day's group work will be created for each group. The evaluation will be based on the group sheet (30%), presentation (40%), and the final test (30%).

課題・試験結果の開示方法
For the final exam, overall comments and model answers will be provided using the Universal Passport's class profile feature.
