The main purposes of this course is for students to have opportunities to read some rather short stories in English and to discuss them, topics related to them, and other topics in English.

講義内容・授業計画
This course will be conducted only in English. All of the materials and speaking and writing and teaching will be in English. Translating back and forth between English and other languages is not a part of this course.

Speaking activities will be the most common activity in class, for example, speaking with classmates in pairs or small groups and asking and answering questions orally. There will also be some writing done in class. The homework will involve reading short stories in order to prepare for quizzes and for that day's speaking and writing activities. You will probably also make one short individual presentation at the end of the semester about another short story you will read.

成績評価の基準・方法
Final grades will be based on contributions to class discussions and other in-class work (40%), quizzes (50%), and one presentation (10%). Continual use of Japanese in class will result in a lower final grade.

Feedback will be given in class.
履修上の注意・履修要件
Students who take this course should be motivated to actively participate in class in English, to do the required homework reading, and to make a presentation in English.

The enrollment for this class will be limited to 25 students.  So, be sure to attend the first class.
