講義目的・到達目標
This course provides guidance and support for students who pursue research towards completing a Master's degree. The instructor guides the students through the process of selecting appropriate research questions and research methods for their research projects. Students obtain an overview of research ethics and will have an opportunity to refine their presentation skills. Within one year, students are expected to present the research framework of their Master's thesis in the interim report meeting. Within two years, students are expected to complete their Master's thesis.

【講義内容】

Students learn how to ask (a) relevant research questions, and (b) how to search for relevant research literature. Students will be provided with the tools for selecting adequate research methods.
Furthermore, students learn how to structure a thesis and how to present their research design and results in an oral presentation. Students will also be familiarized with research ethics and critical thinking skills.

事前・事後学習(予習・復習)の内容・時間の目安
[Preparation] Students are expected to conduct research independently and present preliminary research results in class and in the interim meeting (30 hours).
[Review] Students are expected to submit an initial draft of their Master's thesis (30 hours).

Students will have an opportunity to present and discuss their research in class.
成績評価の基準・方法
[Grading criteria]

Students will learn how to develop appropriate (a) research question(s) and (b) select adequate research methods for their research project.
Students will have an opportunity to present the preliminary results of their research projects in class and at the interim report meeting.
Students will work on a preliminary draft of their Master's thesis. In addition, students need to demonstrate an understanding of research ethics.

Students who complete these assignments will be graded by the objectives and targets stated on the syllabus as follows: S (90 points or more), A (80 points or more), B (70 points or more), and C (60 points or more). Students need to score at least 60 points to obtain credit for this course.

[Grading method]

Presentation of research project 30%, submission of a preliminary draft of Master's thesis 30%, presentation at interim report meeting 20%, regular attendance and contribution to classes 20%.
課題・試験結果の開示方法
The instructor will provide detailed comments on the initial draft of the Master's thesis and prepare students for the presentation of their research topics in the interim report meeting.

Regular attendance is required.
