Course Objectives :
This course aims to prepare the students for careers in a Japanese business environment, where not only language, but the array of gestures and manners that accompany it are essential for a successful work life in Japan.

Learning Outcome :
The students will become familiar with aspects of the Japanese language used in and necessary for navigating professional environments.

講義内容・授業計画
Course Overview :
This course is designed for students who have various levels of Japanese language proficiency, and as such the language of instruction will be English. The advanced students will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the intricacies of the specialized language used in business contexts, while beginner and intermediate level students will become acquainted with the various layers of language, and the marked differences between colloquial Japanese and the Japanese used during business meetings. Students will also learn about business culture and business manners in Japan—essential aspects for successful communication.

事前・事後学習(予習・復習)の内容・時間の目安
【Pre-Learning】 Students are expected to use at least 60 minutes in preparation for each class, completing the indicated assignments and reviewing the content of the previous class.
 
【Post-Learning】 Students are expected to prepare for the midterm and the final exam by reviewing the content of each class.
アクティブ・ラーニングの内容
Contents of Active Learning :
As part of the class activities, the students will engage in group work meant to facilitate the comprehension of the provided
material, as well as in group discussions starting from the material.

成績評価の基準・方法
Evaluation
S (90%~) excellent (thorough mastery of course material & concepts)
A (80%~) good (proficient grasp of most course material & concepts)
B (70%~) fair (general understanding of principal course material & concepts)
C (60%~) poor but passing (superficial familiarity with some course material)
In order to obtain the credits for this course, at least a C (60%) is necessary.

Evaluation methods:
Class participation (discussion, presentation) 25%, midterm 30%, final exam 45%

Feedback and explanations for the assignments and the midterm will be given in class.
履修上の注意・履修要件
Students are expected to actively participate in class activities and to prepare in advance by completing the indicated
assignments and reviewing the content of the previous class.
