講義目的・到達目標
【講義目的】The first part of this course focuses on the role of migration in Japan. For students who may consider working in this country, an understanding of migration and ethnicity is relevant. In this context, we will investigate immigration laws in Japan and the concept of skilled migration from the perspectives of employment and ethnicity. (Terada)
The second part seeks to provide an understanding of various aspects of Japanese society from tradition to modernity, in particular through the re-creation of images in Japanese popular cultures, reading living texts of web journals and magazines covering global current issues. This year covers fashion and sustainability, field study is to be planned related to the topic. (Onohara) 【到達目標】In the first part of the course, students will gain an understanding of migration to Japan through various readings. Students will reflect upon concepts that are relevant to the study of migration such as ethnicity and identity. (Terada) In the second part of this course, students will understand the aspects of Japanese society from tradition to modernity through the study of fashion culture. 講義内容・授業計画
【Course Content】
In the first part of this course, students will examine the role of migration in Japan in an aging society. Through reading a variety of materials on Japanese society, students will develop skills in critical thinking, discussion, and research presentations. (Terada) In the second part of the course, students will learn about Japanese culture between tradition and modernity with a focus on kimono fashion, street fashion, and sustainability. 事前・事後学習(予習・復習)の内容・時間の目安
【Preparation】A detailed list of readings for each class will be distributed to the students during the first class, and will afterwards be available on the Universal Passport. About 60 minutes individual study are necessary to be able to actively participate in each class. Altogether, 15 hours are estimated for the total preparation time (Onohara and Terada).
【Review】Students are highly encouraged to review the class content to become familiar with the concepts used and be able to follow and participate in class discussions (approximately 60 minutes of individual review time for each class). In order for students to be able to have a direct experience of the issues discussed in class, a field trip is scheduled as part of the curriculum. The details will be decided upon consultation with the students.
成績評価の基準・方法
【成績評価の基準】
S (90%~) excellent (thorough mastery of course material & concepts) A (80%~) good (proficient grasp of most course material & concepts) B (70%~) fair (a general understanding of the principal course material & concepts) C (60%~) poor but passing (superficial familiarity with some course material) To obtain the credits for this course, at least a C (60%) is necessary. 【成績評価の方法】 Contributions to class discussion: 30% Final presentation: 40% Written summary of presentation: 30% 課題・試験結果の開示方法
Students will receive continuous feedback in class, during class discussions, and after their midterm and final presentations. (Onohara and Terada)
