講義目的・到達目標
This seminar will discuss selecting a good topic for producing a quality master's thesis in accounting and finance. In this seminar, students will learn to systematically review past literature, figure out key research questions,  and write an academic paper. Then, it will shed light on topics such as corporate governance of the listed firms, earnings management, crowdfunding, venture capitalists, business angels, credit guarantee schemes, initial coin offerings, foreign direct investment, ESG performance, socially responsible finance, and the role of artificial intelligence in financial reporting. Finally, the students will produce an academic paper on their research interests.

事前・事後学習(予習・復習)の内容・時間の目安
This course is open to anyone, irrespective of specialization. Students will be assessed based on their conceptual and quantitative understanding of various accounting and finance issues. Students will be given academic papers and articles as a home task to measure their conceptual and quantitative skills. This requires active study at home for at least two hours after each lecture. This will take nearly 30 hours in total. Another important aspect is that students need to present assigned articles in a group in the classroom.  Finally, students need to write a final paper to complete the course. Altogether, this course will take 60 hours of study to attain a good grade.
アクティブ・ラーニングの内容
Active learning is mainly based on class lectures, assignments, and the presentation of academic papers. This is a participative class.  New and innovative ideas will be given importance. So, students need to participate actively in classroom discussions. The instructor will distribute lecture materials to prepare students for the forthcoming classes.
成績評価の基準・方法
Contribution to classroom discussion, 25%
Presentation, 25%
Final report, 50%

The instructor will give feedback in the classroom.
履修上の注意・履修要件
The course requires basic knowledge of accounting and fi nance. You will not obtain a good grade unless you actively study preand post-sessions.
