Course Objectives and Learning Outcome
This is a class for first-year students, aiming to provide them with a general overview of the Japanese language, as well as practical aspects that will help them both in the everyday and their academic life.

Students are expected to use at least 60 minutes in preparation for each class (reviewing the content of the previous class)
Contents of Active Learning
Students will have opportunities to actively discuss in Japanese through pair work and group work in class.
Grading Criteria and Methods
Grading criteria:
S (90%~) excellent (thorough mastery of course material & concepts)
A (80%~) good (proficient grasp of most course material & concepts)
B (70%~) fair (general understanding of principal course material & concepts)
C (60%~) poor but passing (superficial familiarity with some course material)
In order to obtain the credits for this course, at least a C (60%) is necessary.

Evaluation methods:
Class performance 40%, quizzes 20%, final exam 40%



 
How to Disclose Assignments and Exam Results
Students will receive continuous feedback in class, and directly after the midterm.
Precautions and Requirements for Course Registration
This is a compulsory class for first year international students. Students are expected to actively participate in class, and to prepare (by reviewing or studying the materials indicated by the instructor) before each class.
