Academic Goals of Teacher Training Course
Ability to keep polishing

Course Objectives and Learning Outcome
In order to learn about global environmental changes, procurement of energy resources, and disaster prevention, it is important to think about various problems on the Earth concretely through experiments and practical trainings including fieldworks. In this this experiment, students conduct various experiments in geology and geophysics, and discuss/conclude the obtained results, for growing the ability to explain complicated geological phenomena based on data appropriately.
Goals; 1) Find the relationship between the basic knowledge of Earth science and experimental methods/techniques, 2) Understand the crystals and geological strata etc., consisting the Earth, then analyze the dynamic process of the Earth.
Subtitle and Keywords of the Class
Keywords: Geology, Mineralogy, Geophysics, Fieldwork, Microscopy
Course Overview and Schedule
In this experiment, the basic theories of the parts I to IV (below) are briefly introduced.  Then, after explaining the detailed methods and procedures for each experiment (1 to 11), students carry out the experiments. After checking and organizing the data obtained from the experiments, student conduct a deductive discussion based on the basic knowledge of geoscience, then write summaries to their reports for solving the problems given for each experiment.

(I) Consideration of the process of the Earth's surface changes through observation of topographic maps, geological maps, and aerial photographs.
1. Analysis of topographic and geological development processes using topographic and geological maps
2. Observation of aerial photographs with a stereoscope, analysis of terraces, old rivers, and faults

(II) Consideration of the constituent materials of the Earth's interior and the history of on the Earth's dynamics through field/laboratory measurements of the physical properties of the Earth.
3. Measurement of the electrical resistivity on the ground by using the electrical prospecting method
4. Analysis of underground resistivity structure using computer simulation
5. Analysis of time-series data (meteoric data etc.) using frequency analysis

(III) Understanding of the diversity of materials of the Earth through observation of rocks and minerals.
6. Observation of rocks and minerals by eye and with a magnifying glass
7. Observation of rock texture and rock-forming minerals with a polarizing microscope, determination of constituent mineral species, texture, morphology, etc.
8. Observation of outcrops in the field, estimation of the formation process of geological structures

(IV) Understanding of the crystal morphology (macroscopic properties): a manifestation of the microscopic atomic arrangement.
9. Crystal growth from aqueous solution
10. Crystal plane display method
11. Stereo projection method

Grading Criteria and Methods
For students who understand geology and geophysics and are able to analyze and discuss the Earth’s dynamics, the achievement level of the abilities (knowledge/skills, thinking ability, judgment ability, expressiveness, etc.) is judged.
Evaluation is based on the students’ report and their behavior during the experiment (proactive questioning, etc.).
How to Disclose Assignments and Exam Results
As for the reports, we will specify the corrections and request resubmission if they fall below a certain level. We will introduce and comment on the excellent contents of the report.
Precautions and Requirements for Course Registration
Due to the limited availability of experimental equipment, priority will be given to students aiming to obtain a teacher's license. If there are many applicants, a lottery will be held. Carefully consider whether the desired teacher's license requires credits for this experiments before selecting the course.
Practical Education
該当しない.
