講義目的・到達目標
【Course Objectives】
The main purpose of this course is for students to have opportunities to read human-interest stories in English and to discuss them, topics related to them, and other topics in English.    

【Learning Outcome】
Students will engage in speaking activities as the primary class component, focusing on asking and answering questions, and discussing ideas in small groups. There will also be some writing done in class. The homework will involve reading short stories in order to prepare for quizzes and for that day's speaking and writing activities.

This course values peer-to-peer engagement and some writing outputs over-reliance on technology. Speaking and writing activities will be the most common activity in class. This course will be conducted only in English. Translating back and forth between languages is not a part of this course.

アクティブ・ラーニングの内容
This course focus on oral interaction and peer-to-peer engagement. Students use English to discuss story topics, related themes, and other general topics.
成績評価の基準・方法
In-Class Discussions (30%): Contributions to class discussions, including the ability to ask/answer logical questions and engage with peers in English.
Quizzes (30%): Three scheduled quizzes throughout the semester covering reading comprehension and vocabulary.
Final Individual Presentation (40%): A presentation summarizing a story, followed by a discussion session.

履修上の注意・履修要件
Students who take this course should be motivated to actively participate in class in English, to do the required homework reading, and to make a presentation in English. The enrollment for this class will be limited to 25 students. So, be sure to attend the first class.
