Public finance covers various topics on public policy. This course addresses both theoretical and empirical issues in public policy.

Students should be able to obtain the foundations, especially for empirical analyses of public policy, and discuss them with other students.

講義内容・授業計画

Course Description
This course introduces the economic approach to the analysis of public policy issues. Students will develop the ability to apply economic reasoning to public finance topics and to describe, illustrate, and evaluate empirical models used to address policy-relevant questions.

事前・事後学習(予習・復習)の内容・時間の目安
【予習】 Before each lecture, the students are required to read the corresponding chapter of the textbook and some academic paper related to each topic. (60min)
【復習】 After the class, the students should review the contents of the lecture and the academic papers introduced within the lecture. The students are also expected to conduct some econometric exercises if necessary. (180min)

成績評価の基準・方法

Method of Evaluation

  • Written Examination: 50 points

  • In-class Quizzes: 50 points
    The total score from quizzes administered during the course will be used for evaluation.

  • Attendance: Students who exceed a certain number of absences will not be permitted to take the final exam.

Grading Criteria
Students who demonstrate an adequate understanding of the fiscal system, its current conditions, and related issues will be evaluated according to the level of achievement of the abilities stated in the course objectives and learning outcomes. Grades will be assigned as follows, and course credit will be awarded accordingly:
S (90 points or above), A (80 points or above), B (70 points or above), C (60 points or above).
