This seminar focuses on the relationships between Japan and the country of origin of each student. This is one of the projects of the whole series continuing in Research SeminarⅡand Ⅲ in the 2025 school year, which entails building bridges between countries.
The main goals of this seminar are to:
1. Increase students’ understanding of the issues between Japan and their countries from the viewpoint of history, education, economics, and politics.
2. Provide students with communication skills for discussion and presentation based on their research.

Keywords: languages, cultures, humans and societies

In this seminar, the students are expected to take the lead in the learning process which includes discussions, group work, presentations, and field work.

When using generative AI, please pay attention to the contents described in “Guidelines on the Use of Generative AI in Education at the University of Hyogo (For Students)” In this course, the use of generative AI is permitted only within the following scope, and use beyond this scope is prohibited. Students must follow the instructions of the instructor regarding the use of generative AI. If it is found that generative AI has been used beyond the scope approved by the instructor, credits may not be granted or may be revoked. It is important to verify factual accuracy and check/add sources and references for any content generated by AI. Submitting AI-generated output directly as assignments or reports is strictly prohibited.

There is no specific textbook; all materials will be distributed in the class or will be available at the university library.

References will be provided in class as needed.

Students will need to spend at least two hours preparing materials and reading for each class.

Students will learn to organize and present materials, and to participate in the discussion.

Students who demonstrate an understanding of the assigned tasks and successfully complete the required reports will receive grades based on their level of proficiency in achieving the course objectives and learning outcomes. Grades will be assigned as follows: S (90 points or higher), A (80 points or higher), B (70 points or higher), and C (60 points or higher).
Grading criteria:
Class discussions and comments: 40%
Class presentations: 30%
Assignments: 30%

Feedback will be provided in class or via Unipa when possible.

Students are encouraged to actively participate in class discussions and to work together.
