講義目的・到達目標
This course aims to provide students with a practical understanding of international relations and global governance through participation in Model United Nations (MUN) simulations. By representing assigned countries in structured debates, negotiations, and resolution drafting, students will explore how states articulate national interests, cooperate, and negotiate solutions to global challenges.

Through research assignments, position paper writing, policy development, speeches, and formal debate procedures, students will develop analytical thinking skills, diplomatic communication skills, and the ability to construct evidence-based arguments in English.

The course also prepares interested students for participation in JUEMUN (Japan University English Model United Nations), while ensuring that all enrolled students complete a full in-class MUN experience.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the structure and functions of the United Nations and understand the basic rules of procedure used in Model United Nations conferences.
2. Analyze global issues from the perspective of a specific country and articulate that country’s national interests and policy positions.
3. Conduct independent research using reliable sources and synthesize findings into structured policy documents such as position papers and working papers.
4. Demonstrate critical thinking and negotiation skills through participation in formal debates and caucuses.
5. Draft and evaluate resolutions, including proposing amendments and participating in voting procedures.
6. Communicate persuasively and professionally in English in both formal speeches and informal negotiations.

講義内容・授業計画
This course provides students with an experiential introduction to international relations and global governance through participation in Model United Nations (MUN) simulations. Students will represent assigned member states and engage in research, policy analysis, speech writing, negotiation, and resolution drafting within a structured committee framework.

Throughout the semester, students will develop country-specific policy positions based on independent research and learn to articulate those positions in formal debate settings. Class sessions will combine lectures on United Nations procedures with workshops, peer review activities, negotiation exercises, and simulation practice.

By the end of the course, all students will participate in a full in-class MUN conference. Selected students may also have the opportunity to participate in JUEMUN (Japan University English Model United Nations). The course emphasizes active participation, critical thinking, collaboration, and professional-level English communication in diplomatic contexts.
