Course Objective:

Develop business communication skills to perform effectively in a cross-cultural environment.


Goals:

  • Be able to use communication skills that are effective in a global business environment based on the Objective/WHO/WHAT/HOW framework.
  • Be able to communicate to work effectively in or with a multi-cultural organization with diverse stakeholders in business.

講義内容・授業計画

Course Outline

Students are expected to learn and practice communication skills that are effective in a global business environment. Students will practice business communication based on the objective/WHO/WHAT/HOW framework. The course involves discussions, workshops, presentations, and lectures. 


Class Agenda:

  1. Class orientation, ground rules, self-introduction
  2. Skills for effective communication in cross-cultural environment
  3. Clarifying business objectives and communication objectives
  4. Audience analysis (WHO)
  5. Creating key messages (WHAT)
  6. Effective delivery of messages to the audience (HOW)
  7. Writing recommendation memos
  8. Interim check of learning (test)
  9. Leveraging diversity
  10. Difference in manners and behaviors
  11. Ownership and confidence
  12. Effective Video presentation
  13. Effective presentation flow and slides
  14. Handling meetings
  15. Wrap-up

  • Contribution to class discussions and class productivity, mini tests done in the class: 40%
  • Homework/reports/assignments: 30%
  • Final presentation (including preparation process): 30%

履修上の注意・履修要件
  • Students who missed a class (for any reason) will be required to submit make-up assignment.
  • No credits will be given to those who missed one thirds of classes or more regardless of make-up assignments.
