講義目的・到達目標

This course will help students develop their use of academic English while exploring issues related to globalisation and Japan. Each week, students will read an article related to that week’s topic and answer some related questions. In class, one or two students will present on that week’s topic, which will be followed by listening or watching a video or podcast. Each class will end with a group discussion. Finally, students will sit for a test on the final day of class each semester, where they will answer three essay questions.

By the end of the course students will have developed the practical skills they need research on present on academic topics in English. They will be able to read about, write about, and discuss advanced topics from a critical perspective. They will also develop their understanding of issues related to globalisation.

Each week will have students reading, writing and presenting about various topics:

Week 1: Introduction
Weeks 2-4: Language and Cultural Globalisation

Weeks 11-13: Global Challenges
Week 14: Review
Week 15: Final test

事前・事後学習（予習・復習）の内容・時間の目安

Each week, students will read assigned articles outside of class and submit answers to questions posted online.
Students will also need to prepare one presentation during the semester.

授業中、色々なアクティビティにペアまたはグループで取り組む。

成績評価の基準・方法

Evaluation will consist of presentations (30%), in-class participation (20%), weekly submissions (20%) and a final test (30%)

Students are expected to attend regularly, do the assigned readings and weekly submissions, actively participate in class with meaningful contributions, make presentations and complete the final test

課題・試験結果の開示方法

Feedback on the presentation will be given in class, and grades given over the LMS.
Other grades will be provided at the end of the semester.

履修登録を必ず行うこと。出席回数が授業数の３分の２に満たない場合、定期テストの受験資格が失われます。
